Toshiba International Corporation Announces the Launch of the New WC1 Active Front End Drive

Eliminates Filters and Lowers Costs with Revolutionary Silicon Carbide Technology

Houston, TX: April 21, 2026 – Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) today announced the launch of its new WC1 Active Front End (AFE) Drive. A drive engineered to solve a common industry problem: achieving superior power quality without the high cost and complexity of traditional solutions. By incorporating cutting-edge silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET technology, the WC1 eliminates the need for bulky, expensive external harmonic filters, potentially resulting in significant savings on installation and operational costs.

The WC1 achieves a total harmonic current distortion (THDi) of 5% or less without any additional equipment, a performance level that helps systems achieve compliance with IEEE 519 standards. The WC1 produces a pure, stable waveform that protects connected? motors from overheating and resulting premature wear, extending equipment life and enhancing overall system reliability.

Unlike traditional drives that require large, external filters to manage harmonics, the WC1 is a compact, all-in-one solution. This directly translates to:

  • Reduced Capital Costs: No need to purchase and install separate harmonic filters.
  • Smaller Footprint: The streamlined design saves valuable floor space, allowing for more efficient facility layouts.
  • Simplified Installation: Less equipment means faster setup and lower labor costs.
  • Lower Maintenance: A simplified system reduces the amount of necessary ongoing maintenance and related troubleshooting.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: The WC1’s low-distortion output minimizes energy losses, improving system-wide electrical efficiency.

“Customers no longer have to choose between performance and practicality,” said Josh Jagnanan, Low Voltage Drives Product Manager. “By leveraging silicon carbide technology, the WC1 delivers pure sine wave power without external filters, helping protect motors, extend equipment life, and improve overall system efficiency.”
